It can feel intimidating to start therapy, especially if this is your first time. Usually with time, clients get comfortable opening up to their therapists. Therapy can be a safe, non-judgmental place for you to reflect on your struggles in life, acquire new perspectives, and receive gentle support.

Psychotherapy

  • Individual Therapy

We focus solely on you and your current distress and life struggles. This space is meant to be a safe place for you to explore and unpack.

  • Child & Adolescent Therapy

The focus is on the child or the adolescent who is experiencing distress. However, including the parents/guardians is also an essential part of Child & Adolescent therapy.

Areas of Expertise

ADHD & Neurodivergence

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that begins in childhood and typically persists into adulthood that includes primary traits, including hyperactivity and impulsivity. ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder) can be quite debilitating throughout one’s life, especially if it is left untreated. Therapy can help you to find your own unique strategies and ways of navigating this world built for neurotypicals.

Mood Disorders

Mood plays an integral part in our daily lives, relationships, and all that we do. However, many factors can trigger us to feel moody, down, or depressed. Others might struggle with an exaggerated mood fluctuations such as bipolar disorder I or II. Mood affects not only our emotional well-being, but it also has a direct impact on our physical well-being as well as cognitive functioning. If left untreated, it can impact our life significantly. Therapy is a non-judgmental, safe place to get to the core of your depression or other mood disorders and identify a plan to enhance your life.

Anxiety-Related Disorders

Anxiety is a state of mind or reaction that is commonly experienced by humans. Although anxiety can protect us from danger, it can often trigger false alarms in modern society. For example, our brain can trick us into believing that being around others in public transportation or going outside our house is dangerous. Therapy can help us to understand the function of anxiety and re-train our minds to use anxiety in a healthy way that serves us well.

Anxiety-related disorders we treat include the following: OCD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and phobias.

Adjustment-Related Issues

Adjusting to new environments is something all of us must do throughout our lives. However, adjusting to different cultures or countries might especially be difficult to foreigners, immigrants, or expats who moved to Korea. If you are experiencing culture shock or homesickness, this often makes it even more difficult and lonely when trying to call a new, different country your home. If you are immigrant returning to Korea from studying abroad or trying to re-locate, you might experience acculturative stress. With the help of a therapist, you can alleviate distress stemming from adjusting to a new culture/environment.

Trauma

After something terrible happens to us, it often can be difficult to cope with such events. It can alter the way we perceive the world, others, and even ourselves. It often takes in-depth emotional work and time to properly heal from traumatic events. With the help of a therapist, you can expect to gain further insight into how traumatic events might have shaped your thoughts or emotions, and what to do to become less impacted by them.

Psychosomatic Disorders

Having to struggle with physical concerns such as chronic headaches or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can be daunting and stressful. In additional to physical concerns, one might develop discomfort and distress surrounding their medical conditions, which further exacerbate the distress they are already experiencing. Therapy can help with increasing stress management skills, relaxation, and provide further insight into the additional psychological distress accompanied by the various medical conditions.

Sleep Difficulties/Disturbances

Sleep is one of human’s essential needs to maximize our daily functioning. However, sleep can cause us trouble, making it difficult for us to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake up too early. Sleep difficulties or disturbances are common especially in mood disorders, anxiety-related disorders, and trauma. In treating sleep difficulties, in addition to getting a medical check-up to rule out medical reasons for sleep disturbances, completing a sleep consultation with a mental health provider can be helpful to increase insight about our sleep patterns and disturbances, as well as building strategies to resolve it.
